I had an imaginary conversation with a friend today:
IM: You didn't call me back today. I was afraid I had offended you...
Me: Oh no. I'm very hard to offend. What offends most people doesn't even faze me anymore.
IM: So....what would I have to do to offend you?
Me: The easiest way to offend me would be to say something about God that implies that He is not loving, or gracious, or caring or forgiving.
IM: Sounds like you get offended alot.
Me: Yeah, but its mostly in churches and with people who say they are believers. They don't mean to offend me.
I may be totally off base here, and please forgive me if I offend you, but
I am less offended by gross sinful acts and deeds done by nonbelievers, then I am by believers speaking against God's goodness, or His Grace as opposed to works and the Law, or those who are judgmental or unkind. The real problem is that very few believers actually have some experience with God's grace and love and goodness and even fewer, me included, are willing to offend the "Pharisees".
